The Art of Lip Tints: A Witch’s Guide

Not all magick is written in smoke and fire. Sometimes, it is whispered on the lips.

Our lip tints are designed to leave a veil of colour that can be worn softly, blurred into a bitten lip effect, or built in layers for deeper intensity. Unlike traditional lipstick, a tint works best when applied to clean, dry lips and allowed to fully set.

Every mouth is its own little ritual space, so colour depth and wear may vary depending on your natural lip tone, lip texture, prep, application method and what you eat or drink while wearing it.

    Step One: Prepare the Canvas

Begin with clean dry lips this is the sacred ground for your spell.

For the smoothest result, gently exfoliate first if your lips are dry or flaky. Avoid applying balm, oil, gloss or heavy skincare immediately before your tint, as this can stop the formula from gripping properly and may cause patchiness or reduced wear.

If your lips are very dry, apply balm earlier in the day, then wipe away any residue before applying your tint.

Step Two: Apply the First Layer

Sweep a thin, even layer across the lips.

For the most even result, start with less product than you think you need. A thin layer will usually set better than one heavy coat.

Allow the first layer to dry fully before pressing your lips together, adding balm, drinking, eating, or applying another layer.

    Step Three: Build the Intensity

Lip tints are designed to be buildable.

One layer may give a softer veil of colour. For deeper shades, especially black, berry, red or vampy tones, apply two thin layers and allow each layer to dry completely before adding the next.

Do not wipe between coats, as this may disturb the stain before it has had time to settle.

    Step Four: Shape Your Spell

    Bold Invocation
Apply two thin layers for stronger colour payoff, allowing each layer to dry fully.

    Gradient Glamour
Apply a lighter layer across the lips, then add a deeper shade or second layer to the centre. Blend softly before the tint fully dries.

    Blurred Enchantment
Apply a small amount and gently blur the edges with a fingertip or brush for a softer, worn-in effect.

    Step Five: Comfort & Wear

Once the tint has fully dried, you can wear it as it is for a soft matte effect, or add a light balm or gloss over the top for comfort and shine.

Please note: adding balm or gloss may soften the finish and can reduce wear time. Water, oily foods, rubbing, and lip-licking may also affect longevity.

Lip tints can feel drier than traditional lipsticks because they are designed to grip the lips rather than sit on top like a creamy lipstick or gloss. If you prefer a more comfortable finish, allow the tint to set first, then add a light layer of balm.

    Troubleshooting Your Tint

If your lip tint appears patchy, fades quickly, or does not seem to stain, check the following:

    • Were your lips completely clean and dry before application?
    • Was there any balm, oil, gloss or skincare residue on the lips?
    • Did each layer dry fully before adding another?
    • Was the product rubbed, wiped, or exposed to water before setting?
    • Are your lips very dry or flaky underneath? (This product will cling to dry patches on your lips if you have any).

For best results, apply to clean, dry, exfoliated lips and build colour in thin layers.

A Note on Shade & Wear

We photograph our products as accurately as possible, but shades may appear slightly different depending on screen settings, lighting, natural lip colour and application method.

Lip tints may also develop differently from person to person. This is normal for stain-style formulas and does not necessarily mean the product is faulty.

With lip tints, you are not simply painting.
    You are layering.
    You are staining.
You are casting colour with intent. 🕯️💋
